A MULTILINGUAL SHORT HANDBOOK FOR THE SAFETY OF FOREIGN WORKERS IN THE HORECA SECTOR

More than twenty years since the landing of 20,000 Albanians with the sugar bowl Vlora in the Port of Bari (August 1991), the very first mass immigration to Italy, our country now has more than four million foreign residents, many of whom engaged in work activities.

The Italian government recently ruled that all workers should be guaranteed both a 4-hour general safety training and a specific training relating to their own specific occupational risk (at least 4 additional hours for tourism personnel );every new employee must receive this training and every five years refresher courses must also provided (Agreement between the Italian Government and its Regions, December 2011).

We decided to capitalize on the experiences gained with the setup of the training material "Working together safely" published in 2010 in collaboration with our German colleagues of BGN to prepare a simple guide to be put at the disposal of foreign workers.

This is a multilingual short brochure mainly meant to give our contribution for the health and safety training of foreign workers in tourism.

A good knowledge of the national language by foreign workers is important for their safety at work, but we think that the support given by simple information materials in their own languages can be an useful additional tool.

The booklet's language is simple and it utilizes many images to discuss the main topics of health and safety in the tourism industry.

Brief chapters are also devoted to two other relevant issues of health promotion: the prevention of chronic degenerative and infectious diseases.

Italian, English, French and Bangla versions.
