Progress has been made in the past, but there are still too many accidents in relation with machines worldwide which not only cause human suffering, but also entail substantial costs for the social insurance systems.

Shisha bars: BGN has determined minimum value for ventilation

A shisha bar needs an efficient, technical ventilation system. Efficient means that in the guest area at least 130 cubic metres of air per hour and per burning hookah must be removed and replaced by fresh air. This was identified by the German Social Accident Insurance Institution for the foodstuffs and catering industry (BGN) in practice tests. Ventilation through open windows and doors is usually not sufficient.

Safety of liquefied natural gas facilities - Propane and butane

This compendium has been prepared in close co-operation with liquefied petroleum gas experts from the ISSA-Sections for the Chemical Industry and Machinery and Systems Safety. It is intended to enable project engineers, plant managers, safety specialists, etc. who have no special knowledge of liquefied gases to assess whether hazards may arise from liquefied gases in their own plant or when constructing, equipping and installing liquefied gas plants.

Safe ventilation in times of the Corona-pandemic: shock ventilation, technical ventilation, air purification

Regular and abundant ventilation is very important, especially in times of the pandemic. This is because it not only improves the air quality, but also reduces the risk of infection, as the number of pathogens in the air can increase considerably in unventilated rooms. The BGN has produced a brochure for companies entitled "Safe ventilation in times of the Corona pandemic: shock ventilation, technical ventilation, air purification".

The five Safety Heroes!

In order to be able to work safely on electrical installations, they have to be completely disconnected for the duration of the repair or installation work. Especially during longer work assignments, however, there is an increased risk that other employees will reconnect an installation because they do not know that a colleague is working on it. Safety award „Goldene Securitas”

Austria's economy is essentially based on the performance of small and medium-sized enterprises. For such companies, it is often an immense challenge to pay attention to the safety and security of their employees as well as their economic success. In order to facilitate their fulfillment of their obligations with regard to prevention, AUVA offers – among other things –  free safety and occupational medical care provided by its AUVAsicher programme. Those companies that have gone beyond the mere fulfillment of their legal obligation, have been rewarded with the "Golden Securitas Award" since 2005 to present date by the AUVA in cooperation with the Austrian Chamber of Commerce (WKO).

The self-check “safety and health in the enterprise”

The Berufsgenossenschaft Nahrungsmittel und Gaststätten (BGN) offers free of charge a self-check „safety and health in the enterprise“ as a web-app which can be used with each modern smartphone with up-dated browser.

With the self-check every entrepreneur of the BGN-branches can find out which significance the topics safety and health at work do have in their enterprise and if these topics have already been integrated in the daily work. This check is not time-consuming: about 30 minutes of process time and for evaluation.

Allergies to mould are an important health topic for bakers with allergic asthma and/or rhinopathy respectively rhinokonjunctivitis. It is the tasks of the employer to assure the protection against all hazards at the workplace caused by biological working materials. Besides the hazards arising at the workplace mould can also be of importance for your health in the private living environment.

Bakers suffering asthma but also other injured persons risk in the case of a high exposure to mould in the private environment that the allergic respiratory disease get worse. In about every tenth home damages caused by mould formation are found.

Safety flyer for the hairdressing salons

With this flyer the Occupational Safety And Health Service Department of Public Health of the Local health Unit of Venice gives its contribution  to the prevention activities in the hairdressing sector. The main occupational risks of hairdressing are here shortly reviewed and the safety check used for the enforcement activities of the Occupational Safety And Health Office is shown.
