Work-related musculoskeletal disorders

This booklet, addressed to employees and their Representatives for Workplace Safety, shows the preventive measures to be applied by workers whose activities are potentially hazardous for the spine or upper/lower limbs. Discussed topics:

  • manual handling of loads;
  • keeping of uncomfortable postures;
  • repetitive motions;
  • drawing and pushing tasks;
  • use of Visual Display Units (VDUs).

In addition, some activities typically belonging to various sectors (i.e. healthcare, construction, office work) are described. With regards to prevention of musculoskeletal disorders, the booklet shows practical solutions for reducing biomechanical overload (including ergonomic features of a workplace equipped with VDU), together with appropriate physical exercises aimed to keep muscles healthy.
